The processing of honed tubes is a precise and rigorous process, where every step is crucial to the quality of the final product. Below, we will take a detailed look at the entire process of honed tube processing.

Preliminary Preparation

    Adequate preliminary preparation is crucial before conducting honing processing. First, it is necessary to prepare suitable honing equipment, such as high-precision honing machines—their performance directly affects the processing accuracy and efficiency. Meanwhile, a complete set of tools (including honing heads, oilstones, etc.) must be equipped, and the quality and specifications of these tools must meet the processing requirements.

    Selecting high-quality honed tube materials is also a key step. Common honed tube materials include seamless steel tubes such as 20#, 16Mn, 45#, 25Mn, and 27SiMn; different materials are suitable for different working conditions and performance requirements. During selection, factors such as the material’s strength, toughness, and wear resistance should be comprehensively considered to ensure it can meet various needs of the honed tube in actual use. In addition, preprocessing the honed tube—such as removing impurities like oil stains and rust on the surface—lays a good foundation for subsequent honing processing and ensures processing quality.

During the Honing Process

    Once all preparations are in place, the honing process can begin. The honed tube is firmly mounted on the workbench of the honing machine to ensure no displacement occurs during processing. Then, the honing machine is started, and the honing head begins to rotate and reciprocate. During this process, the oilstone is pressed tightly against the inner wall of the honed tube by the expanding mechanism, like a patient craftsman, carefully cutting the tiny protrusions on the inner surface and gradually removing the micro-irregularities of the inner hole surface.

    As honing continues, the precision and surface quality of the honed tube's inner wall gradually improve. During this process, it is essential to strictly control honing parameters such as the rotational speed of the honing head, reciprocating speed, and oilstone pressure. Reasonable setting of these parameters ensures the honing effect, enabling the inner hole of the honed tube to achieve extremely high dimensional accuracy with surface roughness reduced to Ra 0.2-0.4μm, meeting the usage requirements of various high-precision equipment. Meanwhile, close attention should be paid to changes in sound and temperature during honing to promptly identify and resolve potential issues, ensuring the smooth progress of processing.

Finalization and Inspection

    When the honing process is completed, it does not mean the end of the entire workflow. First, it is necessary to carefully remove residual debris and honing fluid from the inside of the honed tube. Methods such as high-pressure gas purging and cleaning can be used to ensure the interior of the tube is clean and free of contamination. Although this step seems simple, it has a significant impact on the subsequent use of the honed tube. If residual debris enters the hydraulic system when the cylinder is in operation, it may cause problems such as seal damage and system failure.

    Next comes the strict inspection process. Professional measuring tools, such as internal micrometers and roughness testers, are used to accurately measure the dimensional accuracy and surface roughness of the honed tube. The dimensional accuracy must comply with the pre-set tolerance range, and the surface roughness must also meet the specified standards. Only products that pass all indicators can proceed to the next stage. For honed tubes with high-precision requirements, more detailed inspections (such as roundness and cylindricity testing) may also be required to ensure their performance fully meets the application needs. Only through strict inspection can the quality of the honed tube be guaranteed, providing strong support for the stable operation of mechanical equipment.
